Have you walked around George Town lately and heard a loud chirping sound? You can hear the noise at almost every block, day and night. Swiftlet operators blast the recorded bird calls from speakers on top of their swiftlet houses to attract the birds.
Can you imagine if you lived next door to one of these houses? Listen here:

I have the bad experience of living next to one such swiftlet house.
I Can tell you it was mental torture being subject to the daily shrieking of the bird sounds.
Of course when you complain to the owners, of course they will shrug it off and say its not a big deal. but they dont stay there and only come once a while to collect their bounty. and of course the bird sounds sound like $$$ to them. i ask them why don't they buy my house and bring their whole family to stay there, the fella just keep quiet.
forget about the talks off preserving heritage, possible flu carriers etc. the most pressing problem is the SOUND POLLUTION!
try staying next to one such swiftlet house and experience it yourself 12hrs (and some selfish idiots even put it 24hrs) everyday non-stop. even karaoke also have off-days.
also no matter how complying they say they are (ex 40decible blah blah blah), when you are exposed non-stop to any kind of sound, it becomes a MENTAL STRESS.
imagine this. who is your favorite singer? jacky cheung? ok then try to play his sound 12hrs everyday non-stop and let's see how long you can stand it.
this is what those of us living near to swiftlet houses have to bear with, and its not even jacky cheung but terrible shrieking high-pitched bird noises!
Who are you trying to fool with the recording of swiftlet call. If you wish to emphasis the sound disturbances, at least be honest and don't expect readers to be a fool to believe that what you heard.
No offence.
The tapes are definitely noise pollution but worse still are the sound of the birds themselves. They are much worse than the tapes. In addition they pollute with their poop. If your neighbour is a swiftlet farm then they have to move according to the 10m rule in the guideline. This ruling gives all swiftlet farm neighbours the right to press State and MPPP to enforce and move the farms out.
@West Wing AKA Ali: That is also what I heard coming from one of your bird houses. Can you please turn it down? I for one am not against your birds, but please, have a little sense? People live and work here.
